Total Health Systems Demonstrates an Adjustment on a Child – Macomb County, MI

Hello, I’m doctor Rose Minkiewicz at Total Health System, and today I’m going to be demonstrating an adjustment performed on a child. We get a lot of questions from our patients, as well as from non-patients, about how different it is from an adult adjustment, if it’s really forceful or gentle. I’m going to demonstrate an adjustment on my son. This is Zarek, he’s 3 years old, he’s been getting adjusted since he was about 7 days old, and he’s used to it. But usually when the kids aren’t, we have them watch their parents a couple times, so they know all the procedures of getting on and off the table and what we’re going to do to them. But it is very light force; usually they don’t even feel what we’re doing. He tends to like the noise it makes, because sometimes it makes a popping sound. But we will demonstrate that, and then go from there. Come on lay down, are you ready?  Climb on up.

So we do the same basic check. Postural check and then we check for the fixation in the joints. Children don’t have to have pain to get adjusted, nor do adults. Usually for my children it’s just for prevention as they grow and their bodies develop.  They jump and run and play and fall and sometimes they have you know, little misalignments and things we need to correct. So basically, there I adjusted his pelvis; he didn’t even realize what I did. Rest your arms down for me.

A lot of times little children will have tailbone misalignments. It just depends on what they do with their bodies. Take a big breath, buddy. Blow it out, there you go. Good?  So we don’t use a ton of force or anything. It doesn’t hurt him. Go ahead and turn on your back. Are you ready?

We’re just going to feel their neck. Sometimes we use the same style of adjusting as we do for adults. Other times with smaller babies and things, we can use our pinky finger, we can use our thumb, we can use different things for their neck, because their necks are really tiny and sometimes our fingers are too big. But for him he does fairly well.

What we do is fast but it doesn’t hurt that. How did that go bud, it went good? And that’s it! So the adjustments are quick and easy, especially if they don’t have any problems going on, they tend to get used to it and they don’t have any pain or are not afraid of it if you get them used to it at a young enough age. Thank you.
