Total Health Systems was proud to sponsor the Art and Orchard Festival of races on Saturday June 5th.  This event is held each year to raise money for a local charity. This year the benefiting organization was Kids Kicking Cancer, benefiting kids with cancer and their families.

Total Health Systems provided support to the runners both before and after the event.  Our Athletic Trainer, Laurie Nuyens ATC, CPT provided an online training calendar on our web site as well as a foam rolling and mobility workshop for runners at our new Washington Clinic.  Our other trainers provided foam rolling and mobility demo’s at packet pick up, as well as ran with some of our patients.  Read Michelle’s Thom’s recap of the day below.

“On Saturday, June 5th, I had the privilege of running in the Arts and Orchard 5K in Washington Township.  I have run many races before but this one is very special to me because two members of Total Health’s, Biggest Winner group, Geri and Stephanie, agreed to do it with me.

This was Geri’s second race, which she finished almost 15 minutes faster than her first, three weeks earlier, and with a smile twice as big.  This was a woman who before joining Biggest Winner, 90 days ago, thought activities like this were beyond her.  She has come so far in such a short amount of time and I’m very excited to see the things this amazing woman will accomplish.

This was Stephanie’s first race.  Just like Geri, she thought running a 5k was beyond her abilities.  Once she relaxed and trusted that she was prepared she did a great job.  Not only did Stephanie finish but she did it almost 20 minutes faster than her practice time.

I am very grateful that these ladies decided to join the Biggest Winner group and to put their trust in us.  As their trainer, I had hoped to impact their lives in a positive way and help them to live their lives to their full potential.

I think both of these ladies would agree that joining the biggest winner group not only gave them the support and the confidence to achieve something they thought was out of reach but also knowledge and drive to improve themselves each time they set a new challenge!”

After the race we had a massage therapists Theresa, John, Sabrina and Beth all available to help relieve any aches and pains the runners had following the race. A lucky few runners even won a gift certificate for massage at our office.
