I have spent my whole life in chiropractic offices. My mom was an insurance biller for chiropractors for as long as I can remember. When I was sick or not in school, I was spending my time sitting in the doctor’s office while they were adjusting patients.

When I was about 18, I was offered a job at a chiropractic office. I thought, well, this is a better job than the meat market, why not? Chiropractic is something I knew very well, and the pay was better than my previous jobs. It was difficult at first to see the patients as more then customers, because that’s all I have ever had.

Then one day, a very desperate mother came to my front desk with a three year old boy. She was near tears and begging for our help. She explained that this little boy has never been able to walk. They had been to the pediatrician, neurologists, even surgeons. Nothing had gotten the little boy to so much as stand up. We were her last hope, she said.

The chiropractor examined the little boy and explained to his mother that birth is one of the most traumatic things the human body will ever suffer. The little boy had an extremely subluxated spine, and this could be the source of his problems. She did not adjust him then, but they made an appointment for the next day.

The next day, filled with a new hope, the mother brought in the little boy, and his first pair of shoes. He came back every day for three days. After the third day, that little boy put on his first pair of shoes and walked out of the office. Sobbing, the mother hugged us all and went home to enjoy this new life with her child.

That day I realized that my job at Total Health System’s in Macomb County was much more than just a job. I was watching lives being changed and improved every day. Patients got a chance to live their lives to the fullest. It was amazing to know that you get to be a part of this amazing healing experience.

Since that first little boy I have had people tell me their stories. A grandmother being able to lift her grandchild for the first time, a man being able to participate in his church group again, and a women finally being able to clean her own house. These are the reasons I want to come to work every day at Total Health Systems. I think this is by far the most rewarding career I could have ever chosen and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of your healing. I want to see every person reach their health goals and lead a better life.
