Dr Aaron Lundgaard, the Clinical Director for Total Health Systems, has qualified for the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) world competition

by placing first at The American Powerlifting Federation (APF) National Championships in Chicago Illinois on May 7th, 2016.  He Dr. Lundgaard, Total Health Systems took first place in the 110kg (242 lbs.) Masters (>40 years old) competition, while also out lifting all of the 110kg class in the open competition (all age groups).

Dr. Lundgaard has been powerlifting for approximately 3 years.  It started as a competitive outlet, and has turned into a passion.  He has competed in numerous APF and WPC events, and most recently was involved in a fundraising event for Relentless Detroit, in which he and Total Health Systems became involved in raising funds for children and their families battling potentially life threatening diseases.

At a powerlifting competition, lifters get 3 attempts at each of the three disciplines, squat, bench and deadlift, in that order, for a total of 9 lifts on the day.  The heaviest lift in each category is used as part of the score.  The heaviest total in each lift is then added together to determine the winner.

At the APF National meet, Dr Lundgaard went 8 for 9 on his lifts, had 5 personal best lifts (PR’s) and a total PR.  His best squat was 584lbs.  His best bench press was 424lbs. His best deadlift was 595lbs.  This gave him a personal best total of 1603 lbs (or 727 kg as weights in competition are measured in kilograms).  He beat his best previous total by 60 pounds.

Dr. Lundgaard, Total Health Systems, 2He had fought a hip injury after last year’s National competition to get back to the platform to defend his APF masters title from 2015.  To treat the hip ( a torn hip labrum and torn adductor), he used a combination of physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage, and rehabilitative exercises, all provided by the physicians and staff at Total Health Systems.  This was invaluable in his return and keeping him from surgery.  It not only got him back on track, but also kept him injury free during and after this national meet so his body will be ready for the World competition on Tuesday, November 7th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Dr Lundgaard, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), has taught at our practical lifting seminars we have hosted for our Fitranx athletes and patients, teaching proper technique in squatting, deadlifting, and proper core stabilization.  Total Health Systems promotes holistic health that includes nutrition and fitness, and we aim to practice what we preach.  Our providers strive to lead by example and be role models in your quest for better health.  What have you done for your health lately?
